I teach private lessons for trumpet and piano. I teach all ages of children and adults.
To get the most of your practice time, you want a balanced routine of technical exercises, scales, music theory and repertoire. There are lots of great recordings, play-along CDs, exercise books, and sheet music to check out. Practice material should be challenging but attainable. A teacher will help you navigate the ocean of resources and find the right material for you.
I also believe in improvisation for all of my students. If playing sheet music is like learning to read in a second language, then improvising is like learning to converse in a second language. Even if you don't have a desire to improvise on a stage, exploring improvisation is a great way to digest your understanding of music and music theory, as well get in touch with your unique musical personality. Also, being in touch with the creative process of improvisation makes you a better interpreter of other peoples music!
Practicing may not always be fun, but those who choose to commit the time to practice have realized that it is deeply rewarding. There are many reasons to develop a musical talent. Our lives are enriched when we explore the beautiful and inspiring world of music.
Lessons are 25/half hour or 50/hour. (How much time is right for you? Usually a half hour is enough for beginning students. Hour lessons are best for older students with at least a year of experience).
